Because Mr. Hwang saw the children of the Loess Plateau in northwestern China whom poor and helpless and lived in the cave. Mr. Hwang decided to set up Hope School to help them, from now on, 7 schools have been established in China.
Mr. Hwang entered Tzu Chi Foundation through serendipity in 1984. When Mr. Hwang participated in the disaster relief of the 921 earthquake, he saw the needs of children in the remote areas. Therefore, Mr. Hwang began sponsoring scholarships in 2002. With the help of the Education Bureau and the kindhearted person of society, 25 schools have been sponsored so far and lasted for 18 years.
